The founders of the BJP Youth Ranch are Bill and Jan Pearson. After retiring to Missouri in 1998, from Michigan, Bill and Jan, for the first 8 years dedicated the 350-acre ranch to Youth Rodeos and clinics, but in 2006 decided to change the venue because of the great need to help with the many disabled children and adults.
They began building their Therapeutic Equestrian Program in 2006 and started the program in June of 2007. The ranch is now a nonprofit Youth Ranch that includes many avenues to helping kids and their families.
Their Therapeutic Equestrian Program has a dedicated staff and team of volunteers that want to see their youth and adult riders become stronger mentally and physically.
Having a daughter of their own with cerebral palsy and knowing first hand the benefits of therapeutic riding, it has become Bill and Jan’s dream to make the BJP Youth Ranch a facility to help handicapped children and adults, experience freedom.
Their philosophy at the Ranch is to treat everyone like ‘FAMILY’, whether you are a volunteer, rider or family member. They have special events to honor the volunteers for their dedication and hard work. Their volunteers work in many different areas of this program. Whether they work directly with the horses or in the office, every one of them play an important role.
Their riders range from age 4 to 60 and the disabilities are many, such as cerebral palsy, osteoporosis, mentally challenged, autism, paraplegia and Alzheimer’s. Keep in mind that many of these riders rely on assistance from a parent, spouse or other family member in their every day life... but once they are on the horse, they experience freedom.
